Energy Audits

Groundwork’s Energy Audit service aims to identify cost and emissions savings for businesses by conducting an in-depth, on-site energy audit followed by a detailed decarbonisation report. This report will outline a partial carbon footprint as well as feasibility studies for carbon reduction initiatives including the adoption of renewable technologies, exploring efficiency increases through behaviour change and analysis of utility data. Previous projects have included a study of solar PV systems, Air Source Heat Pumps, LED lighting and process changes. This service aims to provide businesses with practical steps to reduce utility spend and emissions.

This 2 hour Carbon Footprint workshop will take you through the theory and practical applications of calculating your business’ carbon footprint. We’ll explore the background behind carbon footprints and show you how to convert your business activities into the associated carbon impact. This will then allow you to effectively consider how to reduce your emissions – you can’t reduce what you haven’t measured. The workshop will detail widely used standards and procedures to guide the participants through the best practice methodologies to create a complete carbon footprint. Covering jargon busting content, Net Zero strategies and where to look for support, this workshop is ideal for businesses looking to make a start on tackling their emissions or for those who want to ensure they are on the correct path.

Accredited Carbon Literacy SME Course

Carbon Literacy is a not-for-profit training organisation that provides 1 day training courses with the intention to impart knowledge about climate change, our own carbon impact and how we can tackle this as individuals and organisations. This 1-day Carbon Literacy course is for SMEs and is an accredited training course which aims to educate staff on the topic of climate change and leave them feeling empowered on what they can do at home and in the workplace to make a difference.

Businesses that opt for Carbon Literacy training can be part of a large global movement driving climate action and culture change and can work towards becoming a certified Carbon Literate Organisation. A carbon literate workforce can be innovative in thinking of new solutions for carbon reduction, improving the efficiency of operations and lowering operational costs.

What is it?

Carbon Literacy is accredited training which aims to educate staff on the topic of climate. Groundwork have an SME Carbon Literacy Course that can be tailored to be relevant to the organisation and industry.

Carbon Literacy training with Groundwork includes the following:

  • A days worth of learning (8 hours) using an accredited Carbon Literacy Course
  • The following modules:
    • Module 1: Climate Change – Science & Drivers
    • Module 2: Impacts & Climate Justice
    • Module 3: Climate Policy & Our Future
    • Module 4: Positive Actions
    • Module 5: Creating Change with the Workplace
  • Support completing the assessment form which must be completed and reviewed by the Carbon Literacy Trust before participants can be certified Carbon Literate.
  • Carbon Literate Certificate

  • Carbon Literate staff are equipped with the knowledge to take action within the workplace to reduce emissions and support environmental goals
  • Businesses can be part of a large international movement, joining 4,000 other organisations in empowering staff to take action on climate change

This Carbon Literacy SME course is for all members of staff from SME’s that are keen to understand their environmental impact and the actions required to reduce it.

Businesses that attend this ISEP accredited course will gain the knowledge and skills to create a Net Zero Action Plan – which is often mandated by suppliers and customers.

An Action Plan includes a full carbon footprint assessment, clear reduction targets and carbon reduction initiatives for the business.

The course is delivered over 2 days by a qualified sustainability trainer and will give businesses the tools to understand their carbon impact and how to reduce it through clear carbon and cost saving projects.

The course costs £112 per person for West Chester Commercial businesses. Gaining the knowledge to complete a Net Zero Action Plan in house can save businesses up to £4,000 in consultancy fees.

This course is ideal for individuals who are:

  • Leading the creation of a net zero or carbon reduction strategy within their organisation
  • Contributing to the implementation of an existing net zero plan
  • Working in environmental or sustainability roles and newly tasked with net zero responsibilities
  • In charge of communicating their organisation’s net zero goals and progress
